Obituary for Michael "Mike" Powers

Michael Patrick “Mike” Powers 74, Springfield, Missouri departed this life on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Springfield. He was born November 2, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to James Joseph and Ella Mae Powers.
He was a member of St. Agnes Cathedral and served as general manager for numerous hotels, including The Ambassador West Hotel in Chicago, Il.
He is preceded in death by one daughter Kerry Smythe, his parents, two brothers Billy and James, and one sister Mary Anne.
Survivors include his wife Terese Powers of the home, five children Jina Jenson, Patrick Powers, Jodie Wachs, Tommy Powers and Tere Norris, sixteen grandchildren, one sister Virginia Franklin and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Michael graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and was a proud White Sox fan his entire life. Watching a baseball game with him was quite the experience. He loved and cared for many friends over 20 years through A.A. His compassion for all animals and love for his dogs, Lottie, Sugar and Jaycee is unmeasured. Sadie, his cat, is 15 years old and his best bud. He is so loved and will be so missed forever.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017, in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 East Walnut Street, Springfield with the Rosary at 7:45 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in St. Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson, Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
